Animal Justice Party Queensland joined activists around the world protesting the commercial slaughter of kangaroos. Many of the animals are then turned into Nike shoes to be sold to young athletes. Speakers included Tiana Kennedy (Brisbane candidate) and Paula Gilbard (Longman candidate).

Paula asked the public to engage respectfully with Nike and demand change. Paula also questioned the reported number of kangaroos and doubts that government figures add up. “What we have is decades old methodology being used to count the number of kangaroos in a small area and then use that to guess the number in an area stretching for hundreds upon hundreds of kilometres. We are demanding a stop to the killing and some real transparency from the government and industry.”
