Toni McCormack for Herbert
Toni McCormack is the Animal Justice Party candidate for the Division of Herbert. Toni has lived in North Queensland all her life and her family has lived in Townsville since 1875. For 23 years she has worked at the Townsville Hospital, right here in Herbert, in a variety of specialties such as the Intensive Care Unit, Emergency Department, and Orthopaedics. Toni completed her Post Graduate Certificate in Clinical Rehabilitation during her six years as a Clinical Nurse Consultant and finds it very rewarding to provide care to patients with brain injuries, spinal injuries, and other life changing conditions.
Toni runs a small business, Kissing Chickens, providing ethically sourced and made products free from animal ingredients or testing while also donating to chicken sanctuaries. She is a founding member of the local Rooster Rescue & Rehoming North Queensland group and has been involved in the rehoming of thousands of farmed animals who all deserved a chance to a happy life. Toni shares her home with several rescue animals, including hens, dogs and a cat.
Toni is passionate about representing animals and will be a voice for them in Canberra. One of her first priorities will be to introduce a bill to ban live export. This is an issue that is particularly relevant for Herbert voters, with the ships in the Port of Townsville a constant reminder of the hundreds of thousands of lives sent overseas on a terrifying journey to a horrific death. Successive governments continue to ignore the objections from locals. Toni will also act to stop and reverse land clearing; no other party will recognise that 93% of clearing is attributed to grazing. Lastly, Toni will do everything she can to save the Great Barrier Reef. Toni is a qualified rescue diver and has seen first hand the changes caused by climate change.
Donate to get Toni elected!
Contesting elections is a costly exercise - it's a $2000 fee per candidate to get on the ballot paper and then there are advertising and printing costs! We estimate it will cost us a minimum of $5k to cover candidate fees, advertising and printing for Toni's campaign. We'd love to double or triple that to give her the best chance of being elected to represent the Animal Justice Party.
Can you chip in to cover some of the costs?
